GMS Notes No.55 February 2013

This January the village was not exempt from the snow which covered the country. In spite of the cold many people were out walking in the village and the surrounding countryside taking advantage of the many picturesque views.

Last Month’s Meeting

The Great Mongeham Society started the New Year in festive style.

A jolly performance from the Deal Hoodeners set feet tapping.

The music was interspersed with snippets of information on the history of Hoodening in East Kent,

and the performance was rounded off with us all joining in the chorus of the last song.

Members and Hoodeners then enjoyed snacks from the buffet and a glass of wine or two before heading off (with spirits lifted) into the January snow.

MatterhornFebruary Meeting

Few of us knew that Brian Laverick-Smith’s hobby was climbing mountains. He will enlighten us more when he gives his talk “The Lady and the Mountain” which is the story of the Matterhorn and the Brian’s four attempts to climb it, the young lady he met in theprocess and the tragedy at the end of it all. Those of us who were entertained by his talk in 2011 about the cross Channel hovercraft know that he will do a good job with this one too. We meet at 7.30 on February 21st in the Village Hall.
