Last Month’s Meeting

Steve__David_BradleyNovember’s meeting was our AGM . The committee of this year was re-elected for the coming year with the exception of Sajjad Afzal-Woodward who wished to step down as secretary. His place was taken by Moyra Carey. Steve Chappell was re-elected as Chairman and reported on another successful year with well attended meetings and popular excursions. The president outlined the programme for 2014, and this seems to at least equal, if not better, the one for this year. The treasurer (again Brian Knight will act as our ex-officio treasurer due to his committee phobia) reported an increase in expenditure this year, but not enough to warrant an increase in membership subscriptions.

David Bradley then gave a fascinating insight into the business of growing apples. His talk covered the history of apple growing, world production, the biology of the tree from seed to fruit and running an orchard farm.

As has become the custom at AGMs the meeting concluded with wine and cheese.

January Meeting

victorian_dress_2We have no meeting in December but our New Year party for 2014 will have a Victorian/Edwardian theme. We will be entertained at the Parish Hall by the Spinning Jennys, a group of young musicians who play Victorian & Edwardian music hall songs & tunes and popular songs of the First World War. ,They dress to suit the occasion. Why don’t we all go Victorian? I know that if you do you wont be the only ones. Don’t forget bring a platter. If it’s a seasonal Victorian recipe all the better. There will be wine and fruit juice provided as usual. We meet at the usual time of 7.30.

Visitors will be welcome.

Carols Under the Christmas Tree

carol_singersThis year our carols under the Christmas tree will be on Friday 20th December at 6.30. The tree is already in the farmyard and soon to be erected on the village green.

As usual the carols will be led by the Rev. Peter Hambrook. After the carols we will all repair to the Parish Hall where we will be entertained by the handbell ringers while we enjoy our mince pies and mulled wine.
